Belt Lipectomy, also known as the body lift, offers the most dramatic transformation of the mid and lower body. It is truly a re-sculpting of the abdomen, hips, thighs, and buttocks. Broken into its components, it includes a tummy tuck, a thigh lift and a buttock lift. In general, a body lift reduces excess skin and fat resulting in smooth and contoured appearance. These physical changes can improve your body image and increase self-confidence. Aging, sun damage, pregnancy, fluctuations in weight and genetic factors may contribute to poor tissue elasticity and can result in sagging of the skin. This procedure is ideal for patients who have lost a significant amount of weight and are left with weak and saggy skin in areas of the buttocks, abdomen, and thighs. This loose and saggy skin has lost elasticity; therefore, cannot “shrink” back.
Before deciding on having a body lift, a patient needs to make sure that they have stabilized their weight loss. If you have had a weight reduction surgery, Dr. Yadegar will work closely with you to determine when it is appropriate for you to begin body contouring.
The body lift procedure is done under general anesthesia in our facility. An overnight stay is required. Following the surgery, a patient will have drains to remove excess fluid or blood that may collect. A compression garment will need to be worn for several weeks to minimize swelling. Discomfort is moderate the first two weeks and is controlled by medication. Dr. Yadegar instructs patients to do light walking as soon as possible to decrease post operative complications. A patient should plan to be out of work for at least 2 weeks. Vigorous exercise and heavy lifting over twenty pounds is restricted for 6 weeks. The results of a body lift are long lasting, provided that a patient maintains a stable weight and incorporates regular exercise.
